wonky nerdy

After a long hiatus, my TiVo suddenly started recording episodes of The West Wing again. The episodes in question were from those first few seasons when the show was especially good. But looking at the episode descriptions, the show sounds so incredibly boring.

Take this description for the episode “Enemies,” for example: “Political rivals attach a land-use rider that threatens the passing of a crucial banking bill.”

Yawn.

Yet even though the description implies a heavy dose of snore-inducing wonkery, it’s actually a good episode — entertaining, even. Oh, how I’ve missed this show…
