one hundred thousand
My happy little Saturn SL2 hit its milestone 100,000th mile last month. I’d hoped that we’d hit the mark on our trip to St. Mary’s, Md., but, alas, we arrived home just a few miles shy of 100,000. I wanted to mark the occasion doing something of significance — not doing something mundane, like going to the grocery store — so we went back to Fort C.F. Smith Park for the first time since our wedding last spring. When we arrived, the odometer was still just a mile or two off, so we drove in circles around the small parking lot (yes, we looked like complete dorks) until the odometer hit 100,000.
And then we went to the grocery store.
I’ve had this car since November 1999, when I bought it to get to my new job at The Arizona Republic. It was my junior year of college, and the Saturn was my first car. My car and I have been through a lot — and been to a lot, from San Diego to Massachusetts — in the past eight years. A couple bumps aside, it’s been a good ride thus far; here’s hoping it holds out for a good while longer.

Actually, we made it all the way up to Vermont one night! Mmm … mini-adventures to pad the Saturn’s vitae.
That’s right! We did! Thanks for the correction. :)
