transit map of the world

Fanciful map of a world united by a single transit system

I came across the book Transit Maps of the World at the National Gallery last November and was instantly (geekily) enamored of it and its large collection of (as the name implies) public transit (train, subway, etc.) maps — historic, current and even hypothetical — from around the world.

A review of the book on the blog Cartophilia brought it back on my radar — in particular the above “fanciful map of a world united by a single transit system,” in the style of the London Underground map. I love it love it love it.

My roommate got that book for Christmas! I only briefly looked through it, but it’s pretty sweet.
