photo of the day: must to call for

Pedestrians

Spotted at 25th and K streets in D.C.

This may be one of the most poorly-designed signs I’ve seen in some time. Why would you want the key instructions — "Push Button" — smaller than everything else?

And what kind of significance does "Must … To Call For" have, to be set in red? (Aside from actually being the least important words on the sign. Remove them and, as caveman-like as it sounds, “Pedestrians, you push button walk signal” still gets the point across.)

Yeah, there’s that, too. The big orange construction sign is a great bit of obstruction.
